I previously alerted everyone about e-mails that I have received about Beatrice C. wanting a wedding cake. After questions I asked regarding address, phone numbers, wedding planner, etc., I decided that this was some sort of scam because her wedding planner was going to pick up the cake and deliver it back to London! I immediately threw all e-mails into the trash and would not respond.
This morning, I got my answer! Her accountant made a mistake and issued a check for $3000. and it should have been $242.00 and would I deposit the check and send back the remainder to her!!!!!! She also asked for a response to her e-mail. I'm not going to give the scamer, probably sitting in a crowded room full of computers in a foregin country, the pleasure of any kind of response!
I'd almost want to be a smart @#@ and reply that I don't give money back. That I would be keeping the entire amount, because that is my personal policy.
the nerve of some people! grr I can't believe they get away with doing that kind of scam.
Wow, imagine that... The lengths people will go to scam people out of funds. It makes you want to keep it (well, if the check was good) and tell them it's their problem and the check is non-refundable.
How would you go about reporting this to officials?
~what a shame, some people in this world are pond scum - a real job would be out of the question I suppose...~
LOL, if they insist on a response, you can tell them, as previous poster stated..YOU do NOT refund money back. That you will hold the check untill the accountant sends you the correct amount ...IN A CERTIFIED check in AMERICAN funds!
That if her accountant made such a large gaffe, she should find herself a new accountant!
lol
if she has sent you the make believe check, forward it and a copy of the email to the attorney general office in your state. this is very similar to an old scam they were doing a few years ago to older people. some of which lost everything they had.
People fall for these scams all the time. Do not deposit anything. They usually either send a fake check on a ficticious account or from a stolen account. Do not do anything except tell them to kiss your @&!*!
That check is probably a fake. When I have seen these scams, they send a fraud check, you cash it, and when the bank figures it out, they come back on you for the money and fees related. So don't cash the check. Real people would do a stop payment for a mistake like that.

Honestly, I think you should have saved everything and report them to the attorney general. They try and catch creeps like this all the time. Like if they really sent ya the check, or whatever snail mail correspondence, save it all, copy it, send it to the AG. Sometimes they do shows about stuff like this on 20/20 or Dateline.
Glad ya were smarter than they!![]()
Just heard a story like this on the morning radio show. The peron on the radio's SIL got a $2500 check in the mail saying she had won a contest (that she never entered) for $125,000. And all she had to do was cash that check and send them back $5000 for the taxes and fees and they would send her the $125,000 winnings. They reported it to the Attorney General's office.
Big scam, that has been going on for years, can't believe people are still falling for this stuff. The TV runs specials on this type of thing a few times a year.
also if you deposit a check like that....your bank info is in the back of the check! and it would be easy for them to then empty out your account!
WOW! Those are the kind of scams you get if you put things for sale on newspapers or Craigslist and things like that. A shame that they are trickling down to businesses too!
I put alot of furniture for sale last year when we were moving and one of the places I was listing with had a link to the FBI (I think-or CIA or CSI or PDA ![]()
I really get them all confused! I'll look and post the link when I have more time)
Anyway they actually have a dept. set up for scams like this and ask you to forward the emails you recieve to the them. Then they track the IP address and try to shut the bad guys down.
I'm pretty sure how it works is once they sned the check, you deposit it, send them the remaining $$ amount, then sometime later you find that thier check has bounced- leaving you out the $ they owed you and the $ you sent them and the $ that your account is charged for their check.
AHHH It still amazes me how some people have no shame!
