I am getting very frustrated with the buttercream recipes I use...they don't crust very well...can anyone suggest a good crusting buttercream recipe to me? Thank You...Diane

1 c. butter
1 c. shortening
2 tsp. flavoring or extract (vanilla, butter flavor, whatever)

Cream together

Slowly stream in 2 lbs. powdered sugar on low speed, alternating with 4-5 tbl. liquid (milk, creamer, whatever). When all is incorporated, mix on med speed til fluffy.

You can use all shortening too but doesn't taste as good so make sure to use butter flavoring as part of your 1st step. Never fails me in the crust dept!

Thank you...when you use this recipe do you have to thin it some for your crumb coat?
