How Do You Make Seamless Gumpaste 3D Figures?

I recently made some little fondant/gumpaste mix animals for a baby shower cake. They were so much fun to do! Now I want to try even more figure modeling, although I know it will take some practice for me.
My biggest challenge is that you can always see seams where the arm mets the body or anywhere two pieces are fitted together. How do you eliminate that? I've seem some CC members with 3D figures so seamless it looks like they were just shaped out of one single piece.
I wonder if they used modeling chocolate?
thats what im thinking
