I have a baby shower cake coming up soon. It will be my first cake for others. They have requested a rectangle cake(2 layers) and an off centered round cake on the left side. They also want a monkey sitting on the round cake with its legs hanging off. Anybody have suggestions or advice?[/b]

Have you thought about using fondant or gumpaste for the monkey? It would be easier than molding one from RKrispies.

What cute tutorials; IMHO, that one at cakefixation looks a lot more "monkey-ish", doesn't the Wilton one look sort of like a teddy bear with a tail? Which would make monkeys a lot less scary come to think of it...
