Stacking A Cake

I was hoping someone could tell me the "proper" way to stack a cake. Does it differ depending on how many layers, weight... and what to use to support the cakes.

I have used SPS on every stacked cake I have ever done. I have never had a single problem - it's a breeze! I believe there is a sticky in the forums that explains all the specifics. HTH!
