Does anyone have ideas for a coin collector's birthday. It is for a child who is just strting out collecting old Canadian pennies. I thought of a big penny but I don't know. i don't have luster dust to colour it so what combo would make a good penny colour?
Help please.

cake top that looks like the cardboard folders that hold the pennies...

with some circles unfilled

and the the filled circles spell out happy b-day and/or the child's name

when is the cake due? i like the idea of the one big coin. it makes it easier because there is nothing to carve off of a round cake! if you have time i would suggest ordering some luster dust....it makes such a difference in the oohs and aahs of a cake! you can order it here if you have time...it is the cheapest i've seen it and so far has had good reviews. the shipping is not much either.

anyhow, if you cover the cake in brown fondant, you could dry dust it with super pearl or copper luster dust. if you do it as wet paint with alcohol you will use a ton of it, but dry it goes further. plus with the fondant already a brown, you wouldnt need alot more color, mainly the metalic sheen. you could use fondant accents to form the coins details.

if you are in a time pinch, see if you can pick up chocolate coins from your local grocery store or party supply and decorate with those.

good luck. post a pic!
