Has anyone used rice paper to look like tissue paper in a box or basket? Did you spray with water and crumple slightly? There are very brief instructions on pg 111 of Sylvia Weinstock's Sweet Celobrations, but I was looking for insight from someone who has done it "for real" She just says the above, and I don't trust it to be that simple... nothing ever is.....
I have used rice paper sheets to draw an "edible image" for the top of the cake. I notice that when my "paint" is too wet or if water drops on the rice paper it does crinkle. Sooooo... maybe spraying it with water and VERY CAREFULLY crumpling it into the shape you want actually works ok. It can melt completely (made a big hole in one picture 
) if it gets too wet.
Roll out sheets of gumpaste as thinly as possible. Cut out triangles and retangles about 4 inches (or whatever size you need) wide with the pizza cutter and fold each shape around a crumpled piece of tissue. Let them dry overnight. Looks just like tissue paper. I learned that from Colette's book.
