Oklahoma had a Cottage Food Law presented but it 'died in committee' whatever the heck that means. It's supposed to be re-introduced but I'm getting the feeling there's no big support..at least I haven't heard of any.

The new law goes into effect Sept. 1, 2011, so y'all have the summer to plan your new legal businesses!

Can anyone help me find where to get what I need to get a tax id and insurance. Are there any other steps that I would need to take? Do I need a business license? I am just so excited and bubbling with questions!

I am sure kelleym is feverishly working away at finding out all the details. I would probably check the Texas Cottage Food website as a starting point and then I would proceed to call 311. They can usually direct you to the correct place. You can also try calling the health dept but as far as I know, they have little involvement in this. There will be alot of inquiring minds in the next couple of weeks about this. Is there a specialty bake shop that sells cake supplies near you that you can ask? Just a start......
