When I made mine, I took my own flip flop and traced it on a piece of paper. I baked a 12X18 cake and carved the flip flops out of it using the template that I made.
The "thong" part of the flip flop, I made out of gumpaste and laid over a cardboard roll from paper towels so it would dry with a curve to it.
I used candy melts to attach lollipop sticks to the ends and put them down into the cake. Hope this helps.
This is a tutorial I came across while planning a flip flop cake for my niece's birthday.
Until my daughter expressed an undying hatred for "those big thick flip flops" and refused to let me make that kind.
