Sesame Street Characters Out Of Fondant

Hello! I am wanting to do a sesame street cake for my sons 1st birthday. The theme is sesame street(of course!) Beginnings. It's all of the characters as little babies in diapers. So adorable! Anyways, I was wanting to try and make the figures out of fondant which I have never done before. I don't even know where to start! Am o getting into something that is way out if my creative skill or is it sort of easy to do? Thanks!
There's this tutorial to make Elmo.

I'll see if I find anything else.
I have only modelled twice now, and will be doing again this week but what I do is find a load of different angled photos of what I want to make and model it from there and just see how it turns out! It takes a long time because there is a bit of trial and error (first time at least) but worthwhile in the end especially if there is no tutorial anywhere!
