I need to make a volleyball cake and plan to buy a ball pan. Looking in the gallery of other ball cakes, it looks as though this is a particularly difficult cake to pull off. Does anyone have any tips for getting a good finish? I plan to use fondant and put the cake on perhaps a 9" round tier.

Thanks!

I did a bowling ball cake and used the chocolate version of wasc cake. That held its shape very well. Getting the fondant smooth at the bottom was a whole other can of worms.

Good Luck!
