Hi everyone, I just started learning about cake decorating and I love it. I have mostly been making gum paste figures but now I am going to do my first 2 tier cake and I was wondering if I needed to put construction materials to hold the top tier (it will be a small tier)?
(pleas excuse my grammar and pour use of words, English is not my mother language) ![]()
You will need to use some support in your bottom tier so that it won't collapse under the weight of the second tier. I have been using wooden craft dowels but there are plastic dowels and you can use bubble straws too! Leave the cardboard under the second tier so it rests on the pre measured and cut dowels! You also need to use some icing to glue the cakes down so they don't slide. If you look up Edna and cake stacking on YouTube she has a great video showing how she does it. Good luck! Have fun...this cake decorating stuff is really addictive!
