How do you all make that beautiful scrollwork that I see on so many of these gorgeous cakes? Is there a template or is it all freehand? I tried to do a little of it the other night and I botched it up good. I know my icing wasn't thin enough, but I look at some of these cakes and it looks like there is a rhyme and reason.

Some people do it freehand and Wilton makes scroll presses that you can use to give you the pattern on the sides of the cake.. all you have to do is decorate it by following the design made from the press
