I have been asked to make a plaid shirt cake and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make plaid fondant?! Please help!

I have two suggestions. One is to paint the plaid design on the white fondant you've rolled out with gel colors dissolved in some vodka. The other one, MUCH more complicated, is to tint fondant in all of the colors you'll need for the plaid, then roll them, cut them to size and put them together like a jigsaw puzzle. I personally would opt for the first one.

I've done it both ways, and they each have a different look. Painting is faster, just use a ruler as a guide and after dipping your brush, dab a bit on a spare piece of fondant before going to the cake. Also, I bought a stencil for the plaid at an ICES show - you can go on line and get one. It's basically 2 pieces with the lines running in different directions and you paint the cake with the stencil in place or both stencils crisscrossing, if that's clear. Good luck and post pics!
