Mushroom Cakes - What's Your Secret?

I was hoping to make a smurf's house and wondered what all your secrets are for making a 3D mushroom cake?

I was thinking using the soccer ball pan for the base to give it that chubby look but not sure what to use on the top. I like the look of those peaked mushrooms.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I would use a 6" cake, a 4" and a 2" and carve.

For my Smurf house I used the wondermold for the base and rice krispie treats for the cap
