I know that I can make a frozen buttercream transfer using a clip art image. However, I have never used this technique before. Does the transfer need taken of the cake before eating of does this actually take on the same consistency as the bc used? Can anyone recommend any other foolproof methods? TIA

I've never done a butter cream transfer before but am going to try one on a cake I have coming up. From what I understand it's like tracing the image, filling it in with BC, freezing it then transferring it on to the cake.
So to answer your question it is butter cream and is left on the cake to be eaten. Hope more people reply to this thread as i too am curious about the ins and outs of a BC transfer.

I believe you work it in reverse, outline and fill in colors from design working in forward towards the rear of the design. I used gumpaste and cutout design of "Scoobie" and painted with edible markers, wanted my design to stand up on the cake. Either way it will look great!!!
