Attaching Sugar Pearls To Fondant
Decorating By ptrish Updated 28 May 2013 , 11:54am by lisahandshoe
Hi Everyone,
I am making my first cake with a quilting pattern and sugar pearls. What is the best way to attach the pearls? Should I make an impression with the pearl first and then attach with a small amount of Royal Icing? Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Patty
Yes, if the rearls are easy to hold, that's exactly what you should do. If the pearls are hard to hold while making the impression you can use a ball tool of similar size. An alternative to the royal icing would be some sort of edible glue (gumpaste, meringue powder, etc) although the royal will work very well.
You can use a sugar glue to attach the pearls, like tylose mixed with water. Works great!
i have done okay with a small brush and a dab of vodka on the pearl, then putting it on with a pair of tweezers.
I did one once and didn't use any glue just put them in. It looked really good but there is no reason not to glue just to be safe. I think I just got lucky lol! The tylose and water caught my attention. That makes glue? Does it work for most anything?
I need to attaché numerous sugar pearls to a fondant cake creating a band around the whole cake. I normally use royal icing but that is when I am putting pearls on a quilting pattern. any suggestions. I should mention I then have a two hour drive for delivery.
