Hoe Deep Should Each Tier On A Wedding Cake Be?

Ive baked a 12 inch, 9 inch and six inch cake for a stacked wedding cake but each level is only 2 inches. It looks really squat! Should they be deeper? Do I have to run to the store and buy another 30 eggs!!! lol

Did you just bake one of each size? I would bake 2 of each size and put icing or what ever other filling you are going to use and then cover each one with bc or fondant.

Single 2" layers are typical for sheet cakes.
Layer cakes are typically two 2" layers, so a tier would be 4" tall.

aim for 4 inches. I've taken wedding cake classes and that is what my instructor's motto was..."4 inches". However, some cakes I have seen on here have been taller. But if I were you I would go with my gut. If you think it looks "squat" like then it probably is. you will be surprised how much better a few more inches to your cake will make everything look better.

Off to the grocery you go or buy a chicken....sorry! icon_sad.gif

Sorry ive only baked one 2inch deep 12 inch square, so yes its off to the store, however the kids are in bed so its an early morning run for me, done that before with the kids in their jammies waiting in the car!! Just means Ill spend longer tomorrow night decorating....*sigh*

Im sure my reciepe has made a decent depth cake before!

Your recipe can't bake up any taller than your pan is deep. If you aren't using 3" deep pans (or rigging 2" deep pans), you'll need to bake two layers from each pan to make layer cakes that aren't short and squatty.
