Hi everyone. I'm new here and have already learned so much from reading all of your posts!
I'm making my first tiered cake this weekend for my son's first birthday - it's a buttercream cake with fondant decorations. I'm trying to work out the time line. The party is at noon on Sunday, but I'd like to be finished with the cake Saturday night.
Can I bake, level and crumb coat the cakes on Friday, and then finish icing on Saturday morning? Or should I crumb coat and ice on the same day? Should I freeze the cakes before I crumb coat them?
Any feedback/tips would be greatly appreciated!
I would bake Friday morning/afternoon, cool, fill and layer, cover in saran wrap and let sit at room temp.
Saturday I would ice and decorate.
Everyone's different but this is how I work!
