Help With Idea For A Cake Based On This Picture...

I have a request for a cake for a 50th birthday party, and they want it to be in the same theme as the invitation. Here is a link to the picture they are using as the background for their invite:

They don't want a cake like the one in the picture, just something that will fit with the theme/colors. I've been looking around on the internet for some inspiration, but haven't found anything just right yet.
Any ideas?

I agree from what you can tell by the photo you posted It looks like maybe it's a 45 record sleeve?
So something to do with music or records or maybe even those gumdrops that are scattered around?

If it were me I would just do a fun cake with those blue/green colors. Google 60's fabric and look under images and you should be able to find a fun pattern that goes with those colors.
The 45's idea is fun too.
Maybe just something with fun geometrics using these colors. like this cake

go here and scroll down the to turquoise, blue raspberry and butter section to see what I was talking about.

I like theresafs idea. It is a 45 cover. Maybe have the little girl holding a 45 instead of the cake. Party hat on using the party colors as 45 covers with records sticking half way out of some. You could use edible markers to write some old song titles from around the 60-70s. Then maybe decorate the sides with 45's. OR, maybe some things from that time period like a jukebox, roller skates (the kind that took a key), peace signs, flowers, tie-dye.

Why not turn the cake into a "Birthday party" It self.
Maybe have records on it one that's tittled 'Happy Birthday" and different candies ( look up what was popular then) party hats... Maybe add an old style banner with the Persons name and age on it..
All in those awesome colors of course...
Did they give you the OK to do your own design or want ....

If you need something geared towards that age maybe a gift box cake ( confetti cake ) maybe in those colors as well.
Is it for a Man or Lady?
I was guessing Lady .

Yes, it's for a lady. I'm having a hard time getting something from the clients about exactly what they want. I've given them a few ideas based on everyone's suggestions here, but haven't heard back yet. When they told me on the phone that they wanted something "not to MATCH the invitation, but in the same style", I assumed (silly me) that they were using actual invitations, not some random picture they found off the internet.
