Attach Large Gumpaste Flowers To Buttercream Cake

I'm making a BC cake with Anemone flowers too. I'm planning on making RI, piping a pointed mound unto a square of wax paper, sticking a skewer or tooth pick in the RI mound turn it over and let dry on styrofoam. Once the flower pick has dried, glue this to the back of the flower with RI also. Otherwise, I would need to learn too how to do this too.
As said above, couldn't you make wire stems and poke the stems downward (as it cascades down the cake) into the cake, so less likely to fall off. Maybe at the top of the wire where it meets the flower, you could put something that is sticky, making it less likely to fall out.
I just wanted to update and let everyone know how it turned out. I put the flowers on wire and used the coffee straws as suggested to insert into the cake, then stuck the wires in them. It worked perfectly!! Thanks ladies!
hey Britt - just wondering (im having the same issue here) hwo did you get the wires on the flowers and did you attach them at the venue? THANKS
