What did you all think of American Idol. Ipersonally thought they showed too much bad poeople and not enough good people. But I guess that is what gets ratings.

Yeah, I think they did too. My cousin was at the Minneapolis tryouts and she said that there were alot of really good singers that didn't even make it past the first tryouts! She said they let all the people that had costumes on through, obviously for the ratings because they weren't good at all. Did you hear when Randy called us Minnehopeless?!?!?! icon_lol.gificon_cry.gif

I heard Randy say that, and I thought it showed poor taste. A lot of the people trying out were not even from Minneapolis, but had came long distances just to try out. We always have some really talented people to choose from, but after watching this tryout process I can't help but wonder how!

Not yet, I knew right away last year that I was voting for Taylor Hicks but this year...I'm not sure. I didn't want to get addicted to this one but I think I will. I have too many addictions the way it is!!!

What's one more addiction? lol! Last year was my first year to watch, but I did enjoy it. I haven't picked a favorite yet. I think it takes me a little while to settle on somebody.

I feel that if you are going to try out for a national singing competition, you need to be prepared for your singing to be critiqued....with that said,
I really don't like that they are so cruel about the things they say and when they make fun of someone's physical appearance like that.

And what is up with Paula???? icon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_confused.gif She seems whacked out on something these days....

I agree you should be prepared to have your singing critiqued, but why all the making fun on physical appearance. The thing I wonder about the most though is why are these people who can't sing and look the way they do coming to try out? Do they really think they can sing? Do they just want a chance to be on TV? Some of them seem truly surprised that they have been turned away. I'm always embarrassed for them!

I think many of them are just trying to get on TV, some do seem genuinely clueless. Like the poor lady who thought she just needed some water to sound better and said she was sick. icon_confused.gif

They can be over the top harsh at times but I chalk that up to ratings as well. What I don't care for is Paula constantly trying to egg Simon on, she acts like some 6 year old girl with a crush. And Randy seems like he's trying to be a Mini Me Simon with the cruelty. It's not you Randy, stop it.

However, I don't mind seeing the bad, that's what this portion of the show is about. We'll see plenty of the good later. And it's too early for me too as far as a favorite. I usually don't have my eye on someone until the final 24 or so.

Hey Ironbaker, how you doin'? I totally agree with you, Paula acts like such a moron! icon_lol.gif Sometimes I get embarassed for her! And Randy totally IS trying to be like Simon. Simon can crack me up sometimes though, and I usually agree with him about who's good and who's bad.

After watching Idol for the past few seasons, I guess the novelty has worn off for me. It's too disturbing to me to watch it until they get to the final 12 as I can't believe the people that actually think they have talent and then to hear all of the negativity they get from "gang"!!! The world's just getting to be a mean place and I'm tired of watching people rip each other apart on T.V.

I don't like when they make fun of people's appearances either, but I have to admit when they criticize people's singing, it's funny. It's like a guilty pleasure of mine. I can't get enough of American Idol. I don't feel bad for the people who can't sing. If I auditioned they would certainly make fun of my voice, which is why I don't go on the show. I like the 16 year old daughter of the football player. She sang My Heart Will Go On. She has a great voice and she's so pretty!

It was really obvious the judges and Ryan Seacrest HATED Seattle.

icon_lol.gif Yeah. Bad voices are funny. And they (actully..Simon) seem to take things too far. For example, making fun of the persons clothing or weight, or anything for that matter!

Hey Flava(flaav)! I usually find myself agreeing with Simon too...even though he's brutually honest or downright nasty at times, he's still honest. I would not want to be patronized and told my shirt is pretty by Paula. icon_lol.gif

Of course I am watching again! Yahoo it is back on! thumbs_up.gif Anyway, I really think now the "market" seems to be to show all the crappy singers in the opening weeks of the show and now to really show the harsh comments. Why? It is what the general public "wants". The ratings this year are through the roof because of the "cruelty" delt out to each victim. But are they really victims? Nope. After how many seasons now, people know that they can get their 15 minutes of fame by acting like a complete idiot on TV and some of them can get more than their 15 minutes (e.g., William Hung and various other people they show through out the rest of the show for that season). The unfortunate side effect is that we don;t see many of the Hollywood hopefulls at the start and have to wait until the Holywood auditions and now at that point we don't know who anyone is. Whereas in the past, we we at least have a handful of people to root for. But, for me I still find the first couple of weeks absolutely hysterical--yeah, I'm a cruel person! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Right now, I have my eye on the Indian boy who made it to Hollywood with his siter--what a little cutie! icon_biggrin.gif

icon_lol.gif You're counting down already, I love it! icon_lol.gif We need a fix real bad.

I agree 100! They do seem to be showing the worst and most cruel moments and I really think some of these people go there on purpose to see if they can get their 15.

I forgot about the Indian guy and his sister - I loved them, especially him! He was so cute and so shy with that lovely smile. And such a sweetie trying to spare his sister's feelings (about the judges thinking he was better). That will be an interesting storyline to follow.

That brother and sister are both super cute.

I wish they would replace Paula with Jewel. Paula annoys me. She's always slapping Simon. I do think there's a little something special in that coca cola cup of hers. It is slightly amusing to see Simon getting irritated with her, though.

I didn't know there was a Canadian Idol. I haven't seen it on here in the U.S. Is it very popular in Canada?

I like to see the funny, wannabe's making fools of themselves for now, since we have almost three months of seeing the ones that can really sing until the end of May where we see the winner. I hope they invite Jennifer Hudson so she can snub at Simon. icon_smile.gif

LOL I was totally thinking that it was a complete soap opera moment before they started playing the music--even said something to hubby. Then they started it--I laughed so hard!!!

Okay, did not watch last night's episode--had to catch up with Heroes and 24, so maybe tonight...
