Thin down gel color with vodka and paint it on with a paint brush. start with the lightest color and work your way up.
I would probably try painting with the gel colors and blending them together.
I would start with yellow on the bottom, blending into orange, with maybe just a little red at the top.
The person who first posted this pic here on CC says she used rum (I assume mixed with gel color) to paint the colors on. If you look closely, you can see the brushstrokes of the orange on the yellow, and on the red at the very top.
