Making A Purse Cake

I need to make a coach purse cake and I was hoping someone who has made some purse cakes could give me any pointers. I understand how to stack the cake, but I'm wondering how to put the fondant on. Do you do it in pieces or cover the entire cake? And any other tips would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

The two purses I did I used pieces, but it depends on the look you are going for I guess? Since purses have seams it makes sense to me to use pieces though that match up where the seams would be!

I also did it in pieces, I think the seams come out better this way. thumbs_up.gif

Hey!

I made a brown Coach purse - in my photos icon_smile.gif
I put fondant over the entire cake and cut out Coach symbols and glued them on after,
I got the coach stencil template in the gallery here under 'templates' icon_smile.gif

I've made 4 purse cakes and my tip is to make your handle(s) days before-hand...whether you want strappy or upright, you'll still want it firm.
