If the brides wants something different than buttercream, she might mean something different than American b/c.

If you want something really different and the covering on your cake doesn't have to be white you could try something different in a fondant that actually tastes good. This recipe that I found here on CC uses jello in the mix. I've tried it with orange jello and the taste was wonderful (I'm going to try it with raspberry next) It takes some getting used to as far as working with it because it is a good deal more flexible and stretchy than regular MMF, but practice makes perfect with any new recipe or technique.
