Help Can't Get My Color Flow Black!

I have never made color flow before, so i tried a sample last night I added soooo much black gel coloring and it was still grayish purple! Any thoughts??

Just a thought...on the same principle as coloring fondant, why not try to make it a dark color like brown, and then add black?
