I need to do a tree as a cake topper. Any suggestions on securing it upright? I was thinking of covering a column or a dowl with fondant for the trunk and using floral wire for the branches. I will also have an owl perched on one of the branches. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks so much!

I just made one a couple of weeks ago. I used a skewer in the middle then cut wire 12" then wrapped thinner wire around the trunk to secure. I also fanned the bottom to make roots and a base. I had a styrofoam block that I then skewered it into so I could work. I bent the wire to give it movement. I added the thin wire in pieces and wrapped onto the thicker wire. Once I got the look I wanted I covered in fondant. It was for a wedding so I didn't add it to the cake until after set up. HTH
