Can U Actually Eat Sugared Blueberries?

So I was looking to make sugared blueberries using egg whites but is this ok to eat? I wanted to use them on top of cupcakes as a garnish.

I think a lot of people eat sugared fruit. Some people make frosting with raw egg whites, too. Personally, I won't eat it or allow my child to, but that is my preference.

I have also heard that the elderly and people with compromised immune systems should not eat things prepared with raw egg whites.

I wonder if it is safer if you use the pasteurized egg whites?

I have read that you can use simple sugar syrup as the "glue" instead of egg whites - just brush it on and either dip or sprinkle and let dry. You can also use meringue powder mixed with water as a slightly safer alternative.
