I'm planning on making some Valentine themed cupcakes for Monday. I found out the hard way that you can't put candy canes into buttercream without them melting. I'm wondering if I can make decorations using Wilton chocolate candy melts and stick them into/on buttercream iced cupcakes. Will they hold up, or should I use something else that won't melt? Also, I would like to make free form hearts and swirls out of the chocolate. What is the best surface to pipe the shapes out onto for easy removal once they're set? I have a silicone mat, will that work? Thanks for your advice!

Chocolate shouldn't melt on BC. Wax paper works well with chocolate shapes.
