When about to frost my cake I always try to get all the crumbs out of my way, and even though I still end up with crumbs on my frosting and I hate that. What can I do to avoid this?

do you do a crumb coat first and refrigerate it for about 10-20 minutes. During that time, realllllly clean the surface that you will be finishing on. That should help. Also be sure to seperate the crumb coat icing from the finishing icing. That way if you redip and get crumbs in while crumb coating it wont ruin the finished product. Hope that made sense. Good luck.

For a crumb coat I separate about a half cup or so of icing and add water to thin and then coat cake.

I use the icing tip and my instructor said to never touch the cake that is where the crumbs come up, if that makes sense. The icing tip will put a good coating of icing on and you hardly have to smooth out the icing.
