How do I cover a petal cake in fondant? Thank you in advance.

The same way as a round. It will fall in place. I make sure that the indents are well defined.

I'm having trouble keeping it from ripping at the rim. How do I stop that? Am I rolling it out to thick? Or to thin?

Sharon Zambito shows how in her 'flawless fondant' video if you care to get it. She just does it like any other cake, then uses tools to press it into the dips.
