I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best nzzle to use for buttercream roses piped straight onto the cupcakes .

A nozzle or tip #104 , #124, 125 or #126 depending the size of rose you wish to make. I've used the #104 and the #125/ HTH

The rose tips are great for making roses that aren't directly piped onto the cupcake, but you're looking for a 1M or 2D: (right?)
