I torte the cakes when I've made the 6", 8", or 9" rounds. I also torte the 8" square. So I end up with 4 cake layers and 3 filling layers.

When I've made the 9"x13", or larger rectangle sizes, I've only cut it so it's two cake layers and one filling. Does anyone cut more layers out of the rectangle sizes? I'm just wondering if it would become too thin to try and get the cake layers back on without them breaking.

I split all 2" layers once, no matter the shape. I don't split 2" tall layers more than once.

If I'm stacking 2 9x13x2 cakes, I then have 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling.
