Does anyone have a coconut cake recipe that is all from scratch? I am having a hard time finding one that doesn't start with a box mix. Also I am looking for it to actually taste like coconut, with shredded coconut in it. I found some that were white cake and just had a coconut frosting. Thanks!

There is a recipe by Bobby Flay from his Coconut Cake Throwdown. i have not tried it, but I have tasted the competitor's cake. If this was chosen over Chef Robert's cake, it has to be spectacular!

This is my favorite from Shubox Cafe. No shredded coconut in the mix but still full of coconut flavor.

I have made the Bobby Flay Coconut cake recipe. It's a lot of work but it is sooooo worth it.
I haven't made the one from Peninsula Grill though. However, my daughter and son-in-law went to Charleston for their anniversary and ate there and had the cake and said it was incredible.

I have made the pennisula grill recipe for the cake and icing and use Bobby's filling for it. It's amazing.

epicurious coconut layer cake...received rave reviews for this cake. I was getting phone calls even a week later on how good it was!! I used my buttercream recipe and folded in some coconut flakes in it. Not too much. The suggested 4 cups in the recipe in between layers is quite much. Most people do not like coconut because of all the chewing you have to do. This recipe is excellent!
