How Do I Make A Pregnant Belly Cake?

I have to make a babyshower cake and was thinking about the belly cake. So far i know they use the ball sports mold for the top, but is the actual belly a regular cake just cut down to shape?

Do what ever works - regular ball pan, bake in a bowl, or carve down from rounds.
