Well guys (and gals)
Got the second tier for my cake that I am entering into the Colorado Sugar arts show painted (dang, seems like the smaller the longer it takes). Now I just have to finish the bottom and the topper (boy that's becoming quite complicated, sheesh).
I know that there's a hole in the fondant by the draft horses backsides, that will be covered with a giant fondant flag so I'm not worried.
But as for the rest of it what do you guys think?
The pics are in my gallery so take a look and let me know what you think and if I need to do anything else with it.
I saw your post, good luck with the cake and the contest, I looked at your photos and you do GREAT work.. amazing artistry.
Your cake is GORGEOUS! Looks like a work of art. Good luck to you!
I was also looking at your gallery of cakes! I'm sitting her in amazement...kicking myself as to why I've never looked at your work before!
It's unbelievable! I love it when people elevate sugar to an art form!
Good luck on your show!
That is AMAZING!! I can't wait to see the finished product! Good luck!!
chaptlps, you are amazing!!! Are you painting with gel colors? Beautiful, beautiful work!!
I just took a peek at your work and must tell you this...girl, you got SKILLS with a capital S!!!! ![]()
Sending you good luck vibes through the web ![]()
ty guys for all your wonderful wishes. Gots all my fingers and toes crossed here. LOL
Hiya Beachcakes, I used airbrush colors for the painting part (they dry quickly without the tackiness of gel colors) you can mix lustre dust and pearl dust into them too for a bling effect. But thank you guys, my job at the bakery is really helping me out with the hours n such (not full time like it was at wallymart) I actually have time to get things done in the afternoon. Or I can take all my equipment to work and work there if I wanted to. Now if I can just get my sorry posterior out from in front of the computer I could actually get something accomplished. O well, guess I am officially addicted to c.c.
K, I was thinking, (dangerous proposition), maybe I should explain why I chose this for a cake.
Here goes,
One of the divisions for the show is "holiday cakes" and independance day was one of the choices. I had a couple ideas runnin through my head as to what to do. Then I figured, in the small town I live in, we have a huge weeklong celebration for the Fourth of July, we have a parade, a rodeo, fireworks, the whole nine yards. So that, is what I chose to portray in my cake. I am hoping that I can get the "rodeo queen" with a giant fondant american flag for the top of the cake. It's proving harder than I had hoped but dang, if that's one thing that I get roped into all the time is if it's hard to do the harder I want to get it done. I was going to make the bottom layer look like a tooled leather belt with a "dinner plate" belt buckle with big gold letters "USA" on it.
Yep, K, I did use a pencil to sketch the fondant on the dummy. I've been trying to come up with ideas in my head for an "edible" pencil for use on the real deal.
I've been contemplating black royal or brown royal, or gumpaste or even chocolate. I will have to experiment and see which one works the best
That is absolutely gorgeous!!! I wish I had an ounce of your talent!!!
Well, here's the moment of truth ladies, IT GOT A BLUE RIBBON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
All the cakes were beautiful!! There were about 50 cakes altogether and let me say that Desiree from "The Makery" in Denver and her crew did a (as my dd would say) "bangdiggity" job putting it all together, the entire show was a major success.
