AHa! Nope, no farm animals here. No egg laying chickens, milk squirtin' cows...nope. Which makes me laugh, cause I have seen people here argue that you aren't really scratch baking if you didn't mill your own flour or make your own butter. So silly.

Actually it's only 100% scratch if you grow your own wheat and raise your own cows. If you use margarine, 100% scratch requires growing your own vegetables (e.g. soybeans), then extracting, hydrogenating, and emulsifying the oils in equipment you have made yourself.

People really do that? Wow!! Eggs laying chickens is one thing since quite a few people do that where I am from, but mill my own flour? No time for all that.

You can buy powered grain millers for home use for around $200. This one is highly rated and has a 20 cup capacity: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UI37N8/?tag=cakecentral-20

I know that you CAN do it, I just didn't realize many people (outside of companies that mass produce) actually do. I appreciate the info, I hear it makes a denser cake, but I won't be milling my own any time soon! haha icon_biggrin.gif

ADon't forget you have to clone your own cows and create the cow embryos in your kitchen lab or else it's not scratch.
