Baking On Two Oven Racks

This is the first time needing to use both of my oven racks. What is the perfect position for them to be in? I know that the rack you bake on is in the center, but the next position up (in my oven) barely leaves any room between the two (it's about an inch).

I would think it would depend on your particular oven. Personally I've given up trying to cook on two racks in mine - I get a better result just using the middle one. I'm sure if you have a whizz-bang oven it'd be a different story.

i prefer using the center rack as well. i avoid the bottom rack altogether.
at times when i have had to bake two cakes at once, i placed them side by side on the center rack. i did not have any problems.
