I read here that to paint fondant, I should mix the luster dust with vodka. I'm doing it right now and I don't think it's coming out right. It's not drying and it's sticky, the same thing that happens when you use the gel food coloring.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help,
Alex

Maybe you need more vodka... I use mine quite runny......it sort of looks like its moving when you paint it on....

It also depends on the quality of your dusts, if they are Wilton they are not going to give you the smoothness or coverage. I like my texture to be about like unwhipped cream, kind of milky but not too thick.

Thanks for the help. I never used this technique before, so I wasn't sure how much luster dust to use. It was pretty thin, so I guess I should have used more. But it worked. It just took a little time to dry.

My luster dust is not Wilton. I'm not sure the brand, I got it at a specialty baking store.

Thanks again
Alex

I always use Everclear instead of vodka - the vodka actually dissolves the sugar thats in the fondant, but Everclear does not affect the sugar, so you don't get that sticky problem. I tried it once and I've never gone back to vodka.
