Hi there, I am doing a few cakes today one of which I want to use a 7inch dummy (by itself) to put a figure on.

What is the best way to cover this? Im using a dummy so that the person can keep it for a little while so I dont think Ill get it back. Do I wrap I still wrap it in plastic wrap first? Do I use buttercream? Or can I jus cover it straight over the dummy with fondant?

Please help & many thanks

All you need to do is get the dummy a little wet, then apply fondant. If you don't put enought water, the fondant will stick and pull. I took a class from Colette, and that's how she does it. I do it all the time and it works perfectly. Good luck.

Just a note...On the flip side, don't put too much water either because it will seep through the bottom and make your fondant sticky as well. icon_smile.gif

I actually have an hairspray type spritzer that I use. A couple small sprays and Wha-la!

Be sure to sand down the top edge of your dummy or the fondant may tear. thumbs_up.gif

The last dummy I did just used crisco (lightly) all over and then covered with fondant. Worked great.

For future reference, if you want to reuse you dummies and like to keep them clean I have found glad Press and Seal works well. Smothes well and pulls off clean.

As was mentioned you want to round the edge of your dummy when using fondant. I usually press the edge against a hard surface and wiggle it a little. It will round it for you.

I've attached fondant to styrofoam using piping gel and corn syrup. I know you can use water, but if you use too much your fondant could melt a little.
