I have one of my first wedding cakes for $ in a few weeks. I know you don't include the top tier in number of servings as couple will save it- do you charge for the top tier and if so, how do you price? If not, is this typically the "gift" to the couple?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I charge exactly the same price/serving as I do for the rest of the wedding cake, I just tell the brides "Ok, so you will have a total of 150 servings, if you choose to save the top, you will have 136 servings to serve your guests" if they need more they add more. I don't give them "gifts" because I'm running a business, I usually reserve "gifts" for friends/family.

Please don't start out by giving them a free cake!

Always charge for your work, you will put the same amount of work and hopefully love into all the tiers.

Happy baking!
