I just recieved a cake order for a 4tier stacked book cake for a baby shower. My biggest question is how do I make the covers of the book stick out and hold their shape

I did not get much of a heads up on this order it is for saturday!!!

You don't want them to stick out too much. I did a stack book cake (see photos), with the ends sticking out just a little bit and it held well.

Judi -

I've done many of these and threw trial and error... here is what I do -

Take the cake pan you are using for the "books"... place on a piece of foam board and trace 3 sides (the other side is the spine) and then cut out the foam board about 1/2 inch... what you are making is a "ledge" for the fondant to lay on while it dries (which does not take long.... 3-4 hours) and you can then remove the "ledge" and wrap the white fondant around the "pages" of the book and the thickness of that will then hold up the book edge for sure!

I have one cut out .. that i reuse.. reuse.. reuse... I covered the foam board (looks like a giant letter C) in contact paper and I use it for my book cakes!
