How do I make a basket cake. The kind of basket a bushel of apples or crabs would come in?

If you are asking how to decorate it, rather than how to bake or carve...

you could apply fondant strips onto the sides of bushel basket cake vertically,

or, if you're doing a buttercream cake, pipe the vertical strips with the smooth side of a small or medium flat basketweave tip or the large icer tip.

You bake whatever kind of cake you want - probably in round pans as opposed to square. You fill and ice it like any other cake, then decorate as CWR41 said.

ah ok...So I don't have to carve it? I guess I could carve it for more of a shape right?

Hi, yes, you stack the layers (3) and then carve a little to make the bottom taper inward. . Smaller at the bottom that the top. then use fondant'g/p mix and make the wooden planks to go around the cake, etc. hth. Fill and stack, freeze for a bit. then this helps you to carve better.
