As im sure its easy to tell im not a cookie person usually cakes lol. I'd like to make some heart shaped cookies and have a small heart in the center with some type of jelly or filling in the center.. Ive seen this in pics. but would love to know what it is and how its done... Thanks in advance cookie queens....
You could make them like Linzer cookies that generally have rasberry jam in the middle. Cut out a solid heart shape of the dough you are using. Place a dab of say rasberry seedless jam (not so much that it overflows). Put a top on which is hear with a cutout in the center (maybe made with a smaller heart cutter or any shape). I put mine together and brush them with an eggwash and bake til they just start browning on the edges....
That sounds like Linzer cookies. (I think that's the name, but I am going on almost no sleep this week.)
You cut out your heart shaped cookies, and make the small cut-out on just half of them. After baking, you can put jelly (usually raspberry, I believe) on the non-cut hearts, and then stack the hearts with the cutouts on top. I have seen them where the top cookie was dusted with confectioner's sugar, too.
HTH.

you can also make stained glass ones by cutting out the small heart as above (you can reroll these) and placing the large heart on a foil lined pan then crushing any hard candy of any color and filling the small cut out heart hole with the candy which will melt while baking and fill the hole. voila stained glass cookie hearts.
That sounds relly cool darcat, I think I'm gonna have to give that a try.
doitallmom here is the link where I got the idea from and it also gives the recipe:

This thread is so funny to me. Growing up, my Grandma was the only person I knew who made these cookies, so I thought she invented them. It wasn't until I was 20 that I saw them at a friend's house, and asked "How did you get Grandma cookies?" Even though I know what they are really called, they will always be "Grandma Cookies" to me.
