So I was reading the many posts on making your own fondant lifter to cover the really large cakes.

Anyway, I wondered about covering the fondant lifter in clear contact paper. It says to cover the rings in fondant? I'm guessing I should cover them after I cut the foamcore board? Will the rings still fit together if I do this? Also will the edges of the contact paper leave lines in my fondant?

You cakers are wonderful and brillant. Thanks in advance!

I use a large piece of cardboard covered with butcher paper. Dust the board and gently lift the edge of the fondant and slide the cardboard underneath. Position over the cake and gently slide off. Butcher paper has a nice wax like texture making the fondant slide off smoothly.
