I am entering a cupcake contest (first time) and I am having a hard time deciding what flavor. My ideas are Salted caramel, Almond joy, Smores, Chocolate ginger, chocolate peppermint patty.... AAHHHH I have a list of over 40 that I keep going back and forth over! icon_cry.gif

What do you think would be the most poular yet differant enough to grab the judges attention?

(Im open to other flavor suggestions too icon_lol.gif )

I have made a "chocolate gingerbread" (aka - chocolate ginger) and it was divine!!
What about a chocolate pumpkin, or chocolate stout.......both yummy!!

Who is the contest going to appeal to kids or adults??

Good Luck!

Ooohh those sound good too!
it is mainly adults... I think. lol this is my first time but from the website and last years winners I would say adults.

I was also thinking of a Mexican hot chocolate cupcake ( chocolate cinnamon)

Lemon ginger is good also, people go crazy over lemon/crystallized ginger cookies and I think it would be awesome as a cupcake as well.

pumpkin pie flavored or carmel apple.

me personally, i don't care for coconut or chocolate, i don't like smores and in general a lot of people don't always like mint; although I'm not a judge either. icon_smile.gif

what were last year's winners?

The baker I work with does a Mex hot chocolate cuppie w/cayanne pepper. It is really good w/a little heat on the back of your pallett at the finish.

Oh, and I was going to say, I've heard that mint in cupcakes reminds people too much of toothpaste...but I don't know, I personally don't like mint so I haven't tried any.....

Oh my... so many good ideas!!! I really like the idea of the mexican hot chocolaate with the cayenne.. I make truffles with cayenne and love them so I know that would be great!

I think last years winners were a Dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, Oreo & vanilla mint frosting and yellow sugar rose and flowers
Runner Up:
» Chocolate fudge with white crystallized sugar icing and orange petal flowers

and AMATEUR
Winner:
» Granny cake with pineapple cream icing and caramelized sugar accent
Runner Up:
» Smores, topped with graham square and chocolate star

I never heard of Hummingbird cake/cupcakes, so I googled for a recipe, and so many recipes popped up. So, which is the best recipe? I saw a few with coconut added also. Also, are the nuts a must have in the recipe?

well the recipe I made wasn't very impressive... more like a muffin than a cupcake. it did not have coconut but I think I will need to play around with this one a bit...
On another note... i think i have it narrowed down to Salted caramel or the mexican chocolate...... now, which one will win over the judges icon_rolleyes.gif
