Do Kitchen Cakes Need Dowels?

I have not done kitchen cakes before, and someone is asking about pricing on them. I am wondering if they need dowels for support?
Does is depend on size? The biggest size I have is 14"x22"-would that be ok without dowels??

A kitchen cake is nothing more than a layer cake. You don't need dowels inside a 4" tall cake unless you're stacking more cake on top of it.

you only need dowels if you are stacking cakes on top of each other. They help support that cake so that it doesn't collapse.
