My BIL just sent this to me!

How could this happen? Unless it was put on by a machine and then packaged. Highly unlikely I presume but come on...........that's why bakers/decorators like us get the jobs out there! We're better and more meticulous!

OMG! Even if you didn't speak another language, certainly someone should've seen the mistake! poor Aunt Elsa and it was her 100th birthday?! If I'm remembering my one semester of Italian in college (ironically in Binghamton where this cake was made), it mentions 100 years?

Oh my icon_sad.gif

Seems Aunt Elsa's birthday cake was totally untouched by human hands, or eyes !!!!

Hope the price of the cake was refunded to the purchaser for this major goof.

Wow! I am surprised that Wegman's made this mistake! They are considered to be a high-end grocery! That's so funny! Didn't the person that picked it up check the cake?

Hmmmm? Is this a phony article?

My guess is that the decorator didn't speak English or Italian and therefore didn't realize it was not supposed to look like that.

I did books for a grocery store and all our "pre-ordered" cakes were decorated starting at 2am and since the the decorators were long gone before actual customers really started coming in, they were hired based on ability to learn decorating skills, not their English. I don't think half of them knew more than 5 words in English, the head decorator made incredible cakes and pretty much knew "hello" and "workcheck" (paycheck).

My brother in law just sent the to me tonight. He takes the ferry to and fro work to Seattle and kills time by surfing the web on his phone and came across this! Maybe someone thought it was supposed to be like that, may have taken it too "litterally"! Maybe it was an error with the program used to print and nothing could be done about it. Who know! Why not just hand write on the cake huh? Anyway, I thought ya'll would enjoy this pic. Hopefully none of us let anything like that slip by us! That's our reputation ya know!

If you follow the story back to:
http://community.livejournal.com/good_eats/507059.html?page=2#comments
You find that it was posted by the co-worker of the woman who ordered it.
Some of those commenting wrote that they knew of people who would really LIKE to have a cake with the computer language on it. But I don't believe Aunt Elsa is one of them. icon_confused.gif
