On The Hunt For A Scratch Vanilla Cake!

Hey Ladies and Gentelmen,
Ok, so i found my perfect scratch chocolate cake. I am on the hunt for a delicious, moist and flavorful scratch vanilla cake. Does anyone have a recipe they can post? I know some people recommend cakes from certain books, but I didn't have any those books.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I would like to know of one too! I'm curious to see what pops up ![]()
I've been meaning to try this one and have read many good things about it:
Classic Yellow Cake Recipe by Sylvia Weinstock:

Ingredients:
* 2-1/4 cups sifted cake flour
* 2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 pound (2 sticks) sweet butter, room temperature
* 2 cups sugar
* 4 large egg yolks
* 2 teaspoons vanilla
* 1 cup sour cream
* 4 large egg whites

I made this cake last week. It was very moist and good in taste. I am not sure if I will keep it as my main recipe for vanilla cake, but it was good. ![]()
I tried the one from Toba Garrets Book, it was quite similar to the one above. I have to say, it was a waste of ingredients. The cake was tasteless and I didn't like the texture at all. I followed the ingredients and directions to a T. It tasted like white bread, actually, white bread has more taste. I hated to throw the cakes out, but I couldn't see anyone actually eating them. This is what always happens to me when I make a scratch white/yellow cake. There just isn't enough flavor, they are never sweet enough. And moistness is always an issue. I don't seem to have that problem with chocolate cakes. I think I may stick to box mixes for vanilla and do the wasc variation as well. I am curioius to see any recipes though.
Have you tried this one?

If you don't like to shortening, people have had success using butter in this recipe instead.
I use Sylvia's yellow cake recipe all the time and I agree it is a good cake, but I don't think it is a show stopper. I would love to have a recipe that is to die for.
I like this one... http://cakecentral.com/recipes/4313/vanilla-butter-cake-from-the-mermaid-bakery
However, I make one change. I use 2 tsp vanilla and add about 1/4 tsp (or slighly more) of almond extract. But I really like almond extract
. I also make my own vanilla extract.
Good luck! It's harder than I thought to find those "go to" cake recipes.
