How In The World Do I Make This?

JacsMommy:
take a look at my bows in my photos when you have time and I can PM you if you like the way they look.
Mine are fondant though. Gumpaste is just as easy but you have to work faster - not a problem. The gumpaste one's would be thinner than mine. ![]()
Basically you need to decide the size bow you want. When do determine that you divide that number by two. So if your bow is 6 inches wide, you divide by 2 and get 3 in. You make cut 4 strips (2 for bows, 2 for tails) of gumpaste or fondant at your desired width, and 3 inches long, and cut an additional piece to wrap around the center (eyeball that, i would say half the width/length. Let the pieces sit for a few minutes (5-10) minutes just to stiffen up. Then take two of the 3 inch strips, fold them in half and pinch in the middle. place them next to each other and wet the tips of the pinched ends slightly and press the two together. Take the middle piece and wrap it around them (wetting the inside part of the middle strip slightly to adhere to the pinched bows. Let that dry and harded (a few hours). Take the strips for the tails and cut the v on the ends with a knife and pinch the tops, if you want them to have a wavy effect, lay them over a rolling pin to dry. Then place the tails on the cake (where you want them) and adhere with a little royal icing and hold in place to set. Then place the bow over the loops and again use a little royal to adhere.
HTH, if you have any more questions feel free to pm me.
I will try to help you. We just learnt this in class.
The bow is actually 5 peices. Roll your fondant out and cut 2 bow loops, 1 bow center and 2 streamers cutting ends in a V shape.
Pleat each end of bow strip. Fold over to form a loop. Brush ends with clear vanilla extract, align ends. Pinch ends to secure.
Stuff loops with crushed facial tissue. Shape bow center by Pleating each end of fondant strip and wrapping it around middle of the joined bow ends.
Pleat streamers and attach with clear vanilla
I hope this helps! And doesn't sound confusing!

Hi!!
I learned this technique in courses. You can use gumpaste or fondant to make it.
1) Roll fondantto 1/16" thick
2) cut two strips the width and length for the bow tails and cut bottom end to shape (v shape or angled) Put a layer of plastic wrap over these while working with the rest of the pieces.
3)Cut two strips of fondant the same width as your bow tails but to desired length (remember these will be folded in half.
4) cut a length of fondant to fold over the center of the bow where everything meets.
5) Pleat each end of the bow loops and fold over in half use clear vanilla to secure layers together. Join two loops together at he ends by using a little clear vanilla. Stuff loops with crumpled parchment or facial tissue to allow to dry as shaped
6) Take bow center and fold it aroun the bow loops centre to desired shape. Secure with clear vanilla.
7)Attach bow tails to cake in desired location and then attach bow loop to cake over top of the tail ends.
Sorry I don't have pictures. I hope this helps you out.
Thanks for the great instructions. Can't wait to try these bows.
